Kare, I really can't thank you enough for your kindness and your help. I used the flyers you made for me and you gave me positive hope that I would be able to find him. I will absolutely tell everyone! I am an animal rescuer and volunteer for 4Paws cat rescue in Merrifield, VA and I am very happy to have become acquainted with you.
Thanks again for everything and feel free to use me as a referral.
Best, Mary

I got my dog back on March 27, 2011! Kare had both her dogs, Loyal and DJ, up in the woods near UNCC looking for him, and was sure he was still in the area. Even when it got cold or rained, she didn't give up. Everyone else was telling me to just quit, that Jazz was "just a dog", but Kare understood that this was my family, my best friend, and kept diligently looking, even if she hadn't slept for a long time!
She made up some wonderful flyers for me that were very eye-catching, and had me canvass the park and local businesses around where he had been lost. She also gave me a good tip to e-mail 5 vets at their personal emails, sending them the flyer, then asking them to contact 5 more vets; like a chain.
This evening (Sunday the 27th), I got a call from one of the vets I'd contacted, who told me someone may have found my dog. Long story short, they'd been walking in the woods where Kare had said her dogs indicated Jazz was, and spotted him. They'd seen his picture on the flyer, so they knew he belonged to someone, and contacted the vet, who'd contacted me.
I'm so glad I have my best friend back! Kare was amazing, and I really don't know if I'd have found Jazz without her help.

Blue Is Home - Lost DuringFireworks Lake Hickory
Date Missing 1/1/2011
During the 2011 New Year's Eve fireworks on Lake Hickory, Blue got scared and ran away. The owner's, two prominent attorneys from Raleigh were devastated. Kare brought her best tracking dog and located the area the dog was in. Realizing this dog wouldn't approach people, she brought in a second dog she called her magnet dog named DJ. Within 10 minutes of her her return she located Blue and dispatched her young German Shepherd Dog. Several times DJ brought Blue over to Kare but would become frightened and move away. Kare even tried climbing a tree but Blue move away before getting down so Kare and DJ gently hazed Blue towards her owner and away from the woods. The dog was hesitant until she caught her owner's scent, only then did Blue happily come to her owner and was leashed. Had it not been for Kare and her two specially trained dogs, Blue may have been lost forever.
Note: Blue's owners were so grateful to be reunited with Blue they donated their advertised reward of $3000 to Missing Pet Recovery Services, Inc. in addition to their donations they purchased a Spotlight GPS tracking device for Blue and their peace of mind.
Missing Great Pyrenees Missing 3-1/2 Months
Found in Tennessee
Date: 3/15/2010 5:12:01 PM
Pet Sleuths, K9 Kare and her search and rescue dog named Loyal, spent three days in Western Tennessee to solved the case of the missing Great Pyrenees and helped reunite the family with their lost pet after it ran away and was missing for 3-1/2 months from December to March 2010. We ruled out a half dozen bad leads out in the surrounding county. Finally, we tracked this dog's scent to a reliable food source that had been established by a local rescue group to aid feral cats. The dog was witnessed being picked up at a local business by a man claiming it was his dog. We got a description of the man with a ponytail and his older model 4-wheel drive vehicle.
It took two days working with local police and sheriffs departments to have our witness check a photo line up so we hopefully could identify the man in question. I was getting nowhere so I contacted the Police Chief in person. It turns out he too is an animal lover and allowed us to file a left of property report to lawfully develop a digital lineup. However, after receiving the cooperation of both departments our witness became reluctant to help identify the man she saw. We knew through scent and eye-witness accounts that the dog escaped from the man's vehicle at a Tractor Supply Company. He had been seen at this location several times so I instructed the owner to keep our flyers on the bulletin board at his location and to inform every employee there that we believed the dog had been stolen and a police report had been filed. Everyday, the owner went back to this location to find only her Lost Dog Poster was removed while others remained undisturbed. This went on for days confirming our suspicions that someone at this location knew the man in question.
Within a few days, the dog either escaped again or was released by the man. I suspect it was the later and released the dog for fear of prosecution for property theft.
It took several more weeks to track the Great Pyrenees, named Tundra down The owner called me excited that someone had called stating a couple had her dog but they were traveling and took the dog with them but would return the dog in a few days. The owner spoke with the couple in possession of the dog and they even verified the dog had a broken lower canine tooth. The owner patiently waited for their return only to discover that it was not her dog, Tundra after all. It was another false lead!
The owner was devastated but I encouraged her to continued canvassing as instructed and about a week later she got the call that her dog had been spotted in the county just outside of town. She rushed over and found her dog. Initially, the dog didn't seem to recognize her and wouldn't respond to her name. With a little coxing Tundra gladly took the offer of a car ride and settled right down. The dog was taken to the vets immediately and was treated for lacerations of her paws and de-wormed.
The owner called me that evening to share the good news. She felt she had learned so much the experience of working with Pet Sleuths that she offered to start a local chapter and join us to reunite other families with their lost pets and work toward the prevention of lost pets. Bless her heart!

Dempsey Is Home!
He showed up around 5:00 last night. When I was looking at the map for you I noticed he was only 1/2 mile from the house, so I put some KFC chicken, as you suggested, in the food bowl outside and cracked the window. Around 5 I heard him crying at the window, I opened the back door and he tackled me with kisses! Thank you for all your help and advise, I couldn't have done it without you!
Please send me the information about the SpotLightGPS Tracker when you get some free time.
Thanks again,
Whitney and Dempsey
Jinx not Jinxed after all...
Date: 4/19/2010 5:12:01 PM
Our beloved cat somehow managed to push loose the screen on his favorite window perch, most likely by clumsiness... we heard the clatter, and as soon as we realized what happened, we were outside looking....
There are acres of thick brush and briars not 60 feet from our apartment, and I'm hoping he is safely hiding in there. He is typically quite shy, and we are afraid he will not find the courage to explore his way home...
I'm wondering if there may be a more pro-active way to finding Jinx. A reward is certainly in order for anyone who can help us bring him home.
Ahhhh! Guess who just hopped through our bedroom window? :D... Lauren heard a meow, and even though she just thought it was just a dream bolted up and said Jjinx?', and was answered by a whole barrage of welcoming chattering, like he was telling us all about the week he's had or something hahaha.
Oh it's so good to have him home, and can't thank you enough for all you've done for us. Since you came, I've been walking up that grass hill beside our building that loyal found scent on, thinking he might be able to follow our scent opposite. It just may have worked!
Like I said, I really believe in you program and your passion, and Lauren and I plan to continue to make donations when we can! Your website is bookmarked!
Please let us know if you are ever in Raleigh again and would like a place to stay or some friends to visit :)
All our best to you and the pack-
Michael, Lauren, and jinx
Kare, Lauren and I are a member of an internet forum called 'usualsuspect.net', which was originally designed as a discussion forum for custom knifemakers and collectors, but now covers all sorts of interests, not the least of which are our pets :)... Many of the members there are some of the kindest, most generous folks I've known. In fact, there's a 4 page thread full of people giving us there thoughts and prayers for Jinx's return. I've posted a giveaway contest for a pocketknife of mine (which was designed by a friend of ours), that I've customized myself with dremel. The only rule is that people must make a donation of any amount to your website. hopefully your paypal account will be seeing some action because of it.
You may actually enjoy the forum itself, and I'm CERTAIN that many of the folks there would enjoy reading about your adventures! You might take a peek sometime if you have a chance :) it may require you to register, but here's a link to the thread! http://www.usualsuspect.net/forums/showthread.php?t=479868
Lauren also wanted me to let you know that she had turned on our ceiling fan last night, hoping to blow some of our scent out the window. That too, may've had something to do with Jinx's return!
This case brought some International attention and desperately needed donations to help us continue our cause. Thank you so very much to everyone!
Turbo Recovering From Raccoon Attack
Great news to report!!
Date: 4/26/2010 6:45:01 PM Turbo was found today by neighbors 1 block to the west of our home behind their shed (a straight line from our house!). He stuck his head out and they noticed him, saw he couldn't walk (back leg mangled) and called animal control. Animal control scanned for a chip, saw our address and drove him right home. His back leg was injured and his foot was mangled with a couple of pads facing forward instead of backwards. The doc initially thought Turbo might have to have his leg amputated but after the xrays said we were in luck - the fibula, the smaller leg bone, was broken and a toe was broken, both of which can heal on their own. Turbo also had a very large abscess on his upper leg which required a significant amount of tissue to be removed. I doubt he would have survived long as he wasn't able to move and the infection was serious. The only downside is the vet bill is shockingly high, unfortunately.
I wanted to send you the link to our website, which we will be updating to send out the news. Check out the map - over 200 people have taken a look at it. I've been surprised by the number of people visiting the site. One good thing about our neighborhood - people here are wired. Internet, cell phones and the old-fashioned way of communicating - talking. Folks here really help each other out.
Here is the website we created for Turbo and our neighbor's missing cat, Iris.

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to help us out Kare. Very much appreciated!! We'll be doing another blog post this week about our experience and will include the details of your services so more folks can learn about your non-profit.
Thanks again,
Kristine & Mel
